Dear Blogger,

We've been seeing each other for a long time now. You've been a great blogging platform, and you've really been there for me through everything over the past few years. However, I think it's time for us to see other people/websites.

It's not you, it's me. People change over time, and I need something new. I need more options and more freedom in design and layouts, and you just haven't been there for me in that way. In retrospect, I guess it kind of is you.

I'll give you some time. If you ever need anything, you can find me at http://adamclaxon.wordpress.com . I'm just living there for now, so don't get too upset.

All the best,
Adam Claxon

Bill Hicks - It's Just a Ride.

"The world is like a ride at an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it, you think it's real, because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round and it has thrills and chills and it's very brightly colored and it's very loud. And it's fun, for a while.

Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: 'Is this real? Or is this just a ride?' And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and they say 'Hey! Don't worry, don't be afraid -- ever -- because... this is just a ride.' And we kill those people.

'Shut him up! We have a lot invested in this ride! Shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry; look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real.' It's just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that -- ever notice that? -- and we let the demons run amok. But it doesn't matter, because... it's just a ride, and we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort. No worry. No job. No savings and money. Just a choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door, buy bigger guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one.

Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, into a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defense each year and, instead, spend it feeding, clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would do many times over -- not one human being excluded -- and we can explore space together, both inner and outer, forever. In peace."

In the interest of honesty

I noticed that this page was getting a lot of hits because of the link to Elliott Smith basement tapes. This was a link to another blog, and, as such, it simply felt dishonest for me to be getting clickies without even hosting the files. The post is now gone, hopefully for the better.

Merlin Mann is amazing.

I found this and felt the need to post it on everything from Twitter, to this blog, to my AIM and GoogleTalk status messages. I've watched and read everything Merlin Mann has to say for a while now (especially on his site 43folders), and though I'm generally impressed by his ideas and methods, I found this talk especially inspiring. Watch it (here, or on his site), then go make things.

Original post on 43folders here.

Nothing is original.

"Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don't bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: "It's not where you take things from - it's where you take them to."

Yay for Polyvinyl.

This is what I saw when I opened my latest order from Polyvinyl: The record I ordered (the new Loney Dear), some cards advertising the new Of Montreal, and some candy. An Airheads, to be specific.
